David Martin

David Martin joined Second Opinion in May 2009 to open the company’s office in Halifax, NS. He brings to Second Opinion over 15 years’ experience in the financial services industry – six years as an institutional bond broker, and nine as an investment counselor and portfolio manager.

David’s experiences and expertise provide him with a broad understanding of the issues related to personal finances and financial planning, as well as an in-depth knowledge of the investment process. His background, coupled with his focus on clients’ issues and concerns, serve him well as he administers Second Opinion’s PlanCHECK, PortfolioCHECK and other services to clients in eastern Canada.

Originally from Newfoundland, David attended Carleton University in Ottawa where he earned a B.A. in economics. His professional credentials include Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designations. In 2007, David was named a fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute.

David is married with three children. In addition to spending time with his family, David is an avid runner and enthusiastic sailor, and currently serves as treasurer of the St. Margaret’s Sailing Club in Glen Haven.
